Lice doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care if you’re rich or struggling, housed or unhoused, a working parent or someone between jobs. But for families already in crisis, a lice infestation can quickly snowball into a bigger problem—missed school days, missed work, anxiety, and isolation.
At Nits & Noggins, we believe lice shouldn’t be one more burden for families who are already overwhelmed. That’s why our nonprofit provides low-cost or free lice treatment to children and families referred to us by school nurses, pediatricians, case managers, and public agencies across Hampton Roads.
Our professional treatment services are powered by our sister organization, PALS Lice Treatment & Removal, a locally owned business in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. PALS covers the bulk of our overhead, including space, supplies, and staffing, so that we can focus on serving families with dignity, not judgment.
When a school nurse refers a child for treatment, we don’t just remove lice—we restore confidence, reduce shame, and help kids get back in the classroom where they belong. Many of the families we serve are between homes, living in shelters, or navigating emergencies that make lice an unaffordable inconvenience. We offer a clean, calming space and judgment-free care when they need it most.
